MediaEngine Virtualized Media Resource Function Wins Communications Solutions Product of the Year
It’s always a good day at Radisys when we learn that one of our products wins an industry award. I’m pleased to say that we can now add “award-winning” to the list of words and phrases we use to describe our Virtualized Media Resource Function, or vMRF, part of our MediaEngine™ product portfolio. Our vMRF has been recognized by TMCnet as a 2015 Communications Solutions Product of the Year.
So what makes our vMRF award worthy? Well today, mobile operators are evolving their networks to Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) architecture to realize the network flexibility and infrastructure reuse gained by deploying virtualized workloads and applications across a generic pool of underlying architecture. These fully virtualized environments for real-time, media processing applications pose challenges for the operator and require a ready-to-deploy virtualized media processing solution.
The award-winning vMRF is a virtualized media processing solution that has been extensively tuned to be deployed as a high-performance, best-of-breed media processing VNF for mobile operators telecom cloud deployments. The vMRF is designed for rapid deployment using an Open Virtualization Format (OVF) package. Our solution is compatible with leading hypervisors such as VMware™ and KVM and cloud deployment support is available for Amazon™ EC2, ETSI-NFV, and OpenStack.
In addition, the vMRF delivers virtualized media processing for key service offerings, including VoLTE, VoWiFi and WebRTC. This software-only media processing powerhouse enables a wide range of revenue-generating basic and value-added interactive multimedia services. It has been optimized to provide the MRF in a virtualized LTE IMS architecture, with 3GPP IR.92 and IR.94 support for VoLTE and SIP service networks.
The vMRF’s key features include:
• Carrier-class media processing features in a software product offering
• Media processing for OTT communications
• Virtualization support for cloud deployments
• Support for WebRTC services
• Based on the MPX Operating Software (MPX-OS)
Proven Deployments
Radisys’ MediaEngine portfolio, including the vMRF, has been selected as the media processing engine that leading telecom equipment manufacturers have chosen to standardize on.
Nokia has standardized its media processing on our MediaEngine portfolio. The company utilizes both our vMRF and our high-capacity MPX-12000 Broadband MRF to provide its mobile operator customers with the flexibility to choose the media processing solution that best fits their economic and technical requirements for VoLTE/VoWiFi service.
ZTE selected the vMRF to power its VoLTE, VoWiFi and other value-added services, delivering real-time multimedia processing for its IMS deployments worldwide.
Metaswitch is another company that has chosen our vMRF. Our vMRF, pre-integrated with OpenCloud’s Rhino Telecom Application Server, is being resold by Metaswitch as part of its Clearwater IMS solution that helps service providers accelerate the transformation of their network and communication services.
The Oracle Communications Converged Application Server has been certified with Radisys’ vMRF. When integrated, these products offer application developers and service providers reduced time-to-market and lower development and deployment costs for multimedia services.
AGNITY’s virtualized Communications Application Server solution and Multi Media Conferencing application are pre-integrated with our vMRF. This joint solution facilitates easy integration and validation of mobile interactive telecommunication services in a SaaS business model for Service Provider customers.
Virtualization in the telecom world isn’t a fad, but is on track for mainstream adoption. The award-winning vMRF plays a critical role in enabling this new world. Drop me a line if you’d like to learn more about our vMRF or the importance of real-time virtualized media processing.
