Boosting Energy Savings with Multi-vendor Hardware and Software Solutions for Cloud Native O-RAN Deployments
Energy efficiency is increasingly becoming a top priority for telcos deploying Open RAN networks. Intel and Radisys’ collaboration continues to demonstrate energy savings over a series of O-RAN Plugfest events and joint demonstrations. The latest in this series is the demonstration of Radisys’ vO-DU and vO-CU software on the 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processor Intel vRAN Boost, alongside Keysight, Dell, and Wind River infrastructure components, showcasing energy savings of up to 20%, based on real-world traffic conditions.
Our ongoing study of energy-saving improvements, sponsored by Vodafone, highlights how O-RAN standardized interfaces can enable software reuse across various generations of processors on vendor-agnostic platforms while delivering significant energy savings without impacting user experience. Additionally, this O-RAN based solution supports closed-loop autonomous mode operation with the use of near real-time and non-real-time RIC (RAN Intelligent Controller) and xApps/rApps, including machine learning and artificial intelligence. We look forward to our continued collaboration to explore further energy savings opportunities benefiting telcos.
