Power it Up: MEF16 Proof-of-Concept Features DCEngine

November is a busy month for our team as we travel around the globe to support multiple industry events. One event on our agenda is the MEF16 global networking conference, taking place this November 7-10 in Baltimore.

MEF16 is the flagship event for the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) and is focused on enabling “third network” services – optimized for real-time traffic – that are delivered over automated, virtualized and interconnected networks running SDN, NFV and more.

One of the highlights of the event is the live Proof-of-Concept (PoC) Showcase that will demonstrate technology innovations that are changing communications. The PoC Showcase will feature 14 demonstrations from 29 companies.

We’re excited to share that our DCEngine will be powered up and running as part of the CenturyLink, Ciena/Blue Planet and RAD PoC demonstration. The companies have come together to demonstrate “Multi-Vendor Service Orchestration Using Open APIs for Service Activation, Performance Monitoring and NFV.” DCEngine delivers the open source hardware for the PoC, and this showcase is the first public demonstration of a working DCEngine.

DCEngine, based on Open Compute Project architecture but enhanced for the telecom industry, provides an open source rack-level hardware system that can be deployed in carrier-grade data centers. It meets telco requirements for seismic, power, emissions and NEBS, and also integrates fully supported open source software. The solution has already been deployed by a tier-one mobile operator as the operator evolves its infrastructure to a DevOps-enabled data center environment.

If you’re attending MEF16, I encourage you to check out all of the technology PoCs at the show to see the future of communications networks and see the DCEngine in action in the CenturyLink, Ciena/Blue Planet and RAD PoC.
